Twickenham Choral Triumphant in Spain!

Twickenham Choral has just returned from a short tour to Spain where we gave concerts to packed and very appreciative audiences in the golden cities of Zamora, Avila and Salamanca.  Special thanks must go to choir members Rachel Skingsley and Jo Humphreys who masterminded the organisation of the tour, Specialised Travel for all the touring, venues and international arrangements, Kathryn Singleton for her superb solo each night of Mendelssohn’s O For the Wings of a Dove, Daniel King Smith for his energetic  – and sometimes atheletic – accompanying, and of course our wonderful conductor, Christopher Herrick who masterfully led us on his last tour with the choir.

This Wednesday, an extraordinary event was held starring Twickenham Choral, a London choir that offered a unique concert in the Zamora Cathedral. This choir, recognised for its warmth and vitality, attracted singers of all ages and stood out for its eclectic selection of musical programs, ranging from the great works of the choral repertoire to lesser-known compositions, from the Renaissance to contemporary music.

Twickenham Choral, which regularly collaborates with prominent soloists and professional orchestras, offered a high-quality performance under the direction of renowned conductor Christopher Herrick. Herrick, a prominent figure in the field of the organ worldwide, left an indelible mark on the music scene with an impressive trajectory that includes his role as a chorister in the Cathedral of St. Paul’s and his participation in historical events such as the Coronation of Elizabeth II in 1953.

During his ten years at Westminster Abbey, Christopher Herrick participated in events of great relevance, such as the ceremonial funeral of Lord Mountbatten and the commemorative concert of Sir William Walton’s eightieth birthday. His artistic contribution has been extended through numerous recordings, especially his collaboration with Hyperion Records on the album ‘Organ Fireworks’.

In addition to the conductor Herrick, Daniel King Smith, organist of the choir, also shone in the evening as a soloist and companion. Internationally recognised for his talent, Smith has been highlighted on numerous occasions in television and radio broadcasts in both the United Kingdom and Japan. His participation in recitals and recordings has consolidated his reputation as a prominent musician in the contemporary music scene.
